Checkups for Cats & Dogs

Routine exams (cat and dog checkups) are essential to helping your pet maintain good long-term physical health.

Linked with proper nutrition and regular vaccinations and parasite prevention, these routine examinations include regular physical checkups to offer your pet the best chance at great lifelong health.

When you bring your pet to see us for their regular checkup, we can prevent health issues from developing in your pet, or detect them early, when they are most treatable.

What to Expect During Your Pet's Physical

Your pet's physical examination will give your vet a complete picture of your furry companion's overall health. A vet checkup at All Creatures Veterinary Hospital will include these elements:

General Condition

Your pet's demeanor and physical condition can provide valuable clues about their overall physical health. Whether they are a healthy weight for their size, their level of alertness and how they stand and walk all point to their general health.

Coat & Skin

Your pet's coat and skin will be checked for signs of problems such as lumps, bumps, excessive oiliness or dryness, shedding or abnormal hair loss.

Face & Head

The vet will examine your pet's nose, eyes and ears for discharge or abnormalities. We'll also check the mouth for symptoms of oral health issues such as periodontal disease or plaque buildup.

Internal Health

Heart rhythm and rate, blood pressure and pulse are vitally important to your pet's heart health. These will be tested to ensure they're normal. The lungs will then be examined for evidence of abnormal breathing.

Since lymph nodes often become swollen or painful when a cat or dog is ill, the vet will examine these along with the abdomen to ensure the kidneys, intestines, spleen, bladder, stomach and liver all feel normal, and that your pet is not displaying any signs of discomfort.

Nutritional Counseling

Did you know the type and amount of food your pet eats (along with frequency) can impact his or her health? During your pet's routine physical exam, we'll ask about their diet and make any recommendations about changes in diet or nutrition that would better support your pet's health.

Checkups for Puppies & Kittens

Puppies and kittens need proper medical attention in their first few weeks of life to get off to a healthy start.

We'll give your new best friend a complete physical examination, appropriate immunizations, and deworming medication.

We will also test for intestinal parasites. You'll be provided with a puppy or kitten kit filled with educational material and samples to help you care for the newest member of your family.

Please never hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have about caring for your new pet, both at your appointments or following your visits.

Once your pet's initial appointment is complete, you'll return periodically for his or her required booster shots

Checkups for Senior Dogs & Cats

With recent advances in veterinary medical knowledge and care, as well as newer therapies and better nutrition, senior pets are living longer than ever.

As your pet ages, regular examinations become increasingly crucial to ensure their continuing health and longevity.

In addition to the routine wellness procedures we perform on all adult pets, during a dog or cat checkup we will give special attention to your senior pet's potential age-related conditions, such as arthritis or decreased vision. Additional laboratory tests will also provide information about your pet's overall health.

Health Certificates for Animals

We offer health certificates for cats, dogs, and exotic animals.

Vaccinations & Prevention

During your pet's physical exam, the veterinarian will also check whether they need preventive care, or if they are due for any routine vaccinations.
